Glasgow Clyde College provides you with the opportunity to gain a Professional Development Award (PDA) in Community Involvement. This course is perfect if you are interested in working with people, volunteering, or helping communities grow and improve. You will dive into the real-world skills needed for Community Learning and Development (CLD). Instead of just sitting in a classroom, you will explore how to bring people together to make positive changes—known as "Community Capacity Building". You will learn how to identify what a community needs, understand the policies that shape our society, and develop the professional values required to work in this rewarding sector

Qualification Breakdown

Personal Development Award in Community Involvement SCQF Level 6. Units you will study are:

  • Working with Communities: Community Capacity Building
  • Working with Communities: Values and Principles
  • Working with Community Groups: An Introduction

Course Assessment
This course is designed to be engaging and interactive. You won't just be writing essays; you will be linking theory with real-world practice. Assessment methods include:

  • Case Studies: Applying your knowledge to real-life community scenarios.
  • Investigations: Researching community groups and their needs.
  • Practical Activity: You will have the opportunity to plan and facilitate a group work session.
  • Extended Responses: Short reports or essays to demonstrate your understanding of values and principles.

Entry requirements

You must have a clear interest in the subject area along with a minimum of an A-C grade in National 5 English.

You must be in S5 or S6.

Attendance Pattern

You will attend college on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 13:30 – 16:00.

Progression Pathways

On successful completion of this award along with good attendance and commitment to this course, you will be given the opportunity of internal progression on to:

  • PDA in Youth Work (SCQF Level 6).
  • HNC in Working with Communities (SCQF Level 7).
  • BA (Hons) in Community Education (Direct entry into degree programmes depending on other Highers).

The level you might enter would depend on the level and relevance of your other qualifications.

Employment Routes / Job Areas

This award is recognised by employers in the CLD sector and can support you in finding employment or volunteer roles in youth work, adult learning, or community development.

Achieving this qualification may also qualify you for membership of the Scottish CLD Standards Council.
