By completing this course, you will gain an understanding and some practical experience of the variety of trades in the construction industry (Plumbing) to assist you to make informed choices regarding a career in construction.

You will gain an understanding of health and safety in construction environments whilst gaining practical skills in basic plumbing tasks whilst developing your confidence in using hand tools and materials safely.

Qualification Breakdown

City & Guilds Entry Level 1 Award in Construction Skills (6219-04)

• Introduction to health and safety in construction
• Bending and jointing copper pipes
• Working with low carbon steel pipes and fittings
• Constructing combined frames

Assessment for this course is on-going throughout the year and there is no end of course exam.

Entry requirements

You must be in S5 or S6 and have:

• an interest in working in the construction industry
• three passes at National 4, which should include Maths and a Technical subject
• some aptitude for graphical forms of communication, as you will be required to read basic drawings.

You are required to work independently and in a team.

Target year group S5 or S6.

Attendance Pattern

You will attend college on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 13:30 – 16:00.

Progression Pathways

On successful completion of this course, you will have the opportunity to be treated as an internal applicant. This means that should you wish to progress onto the next level you will not have to complete a formal application form.

You might go on to do:

• Pre-apprentice Plumbing

The level you might enter would depend on the level and relevance of your other qualifications.
