This exciting and practical course will prepare you for a role in the media industry.

You will learn how to:

  • create a podcast
  • produce short videos for various platforms
  • learn how to create still and animated adverts to post on websites and social media platforms
  • write short news stories.

You will also start to explore the media industry in Scotland and gain an introduction into the various companies which produce content in the country.

This course is designed to be very practical, which means there will be a hands-on approach to learning. Tasks will be created around briefs set by lecturers (who work or have worked in the sector) to provide a realistic representation of what it is like to work in the media industry.

Qualification Breakdown

You will be studying an NPA Creative and Digital Media at SCQF Level 6 (GM16 46) whih covers:

  • Creative industries: An introduction – Scotland (H6MV 75)
  • Creative industries: Understanding a creative brief (HE0E 46)
  • Media: Understanding the creative process (F5D1 12)
  • Storytelling for the creative industries (HH7T 46)

Entry requirements

You must:

• Have achieved 4 National 5s (grade A-C) one of which must be English
• Be capable of working at SCQF Level 6 (Higher) English.

Having previous experience of subjects related to creative industries e.g. art and design or media would be advantageous but not necessary.

Attendance Pattern

You will attend college on Tuesday & Thursday afternoons from 13:30 – 16:00.

Progression Pathways

Successful completion of this course will lead to an unconditional place on HND Media and Communication, HND Digital Film and Television or HND Journalism and Content Production.

Employment Routes / Job Areas

Employment opportunities after training such as broadcast journalist, camera operator, film media technician, sound technician, lighting technician or radio broadcast assistant.
