HNC Computing is one of SQA’s longest established and one of the most popular National awards. It covers a wide range of computing subject areas and it allows you to progress further towards the HND qualifications in Computing Science, Networking, Software Engineering, or Technical Support.
On your successful completion of this course you will receive an HNC Computing certified award.
This broad-based course is at Level 7 of the Scottish Credit Qualification Framework (SCQF).

No matter what route you decide to take i.e. employment or further education, this course will prepare you to achieve your goals and objectives.
The majority of our successful HNC Computing students progress towards the HND qualifications. This course also provides you with an entry level to a number of University courses.
Jobs and further study
Graduates of this course will have the opportunity to continue towards their HND in Computing Science, Software Development, Networking, or Cyber Security.
Students may also apply to study various computing courses at any of the Scottish universities.
Entry requirements (minimum)
- One Higher at Grade C or above in a relevant subject AND one National 5 (or equivalent) from Computing, Maths, English, IT, or Science; OR
- A relevant NC or equivalent qualification; OR
- A suitable employer or academic reference
We will consider your application if you have relevant experience but no formal qualifications.
If you do not meet the entry criteria for your chosen course, you may be offered an alternative course in the same subject area.
When you apply you will receive an automated email confirming that we have received your application and will be in contact as per the following stages:
- Selection will be by qualifications, possible interview and reference
- Proof of qualifications and a suitable academic reference must be supplied before an offer can be made
- Interviews will take place within four weeks of applying.
You will be informed of the outcome of the selection process by email within 10 working days of the interview.
Once an offer is received, you must reply within 10 working days or risk losing your place.
Once you have accepted your offer, you will be sent further information such as start date, induction and funding information.
