Whether you're new to teaching or looking to gain a recognised qualification, the City and Guilds Award in Education and Training is a great place to start. This nationally recognised course is designed for individuals with little or no teaching experience and does not require any previous teaching qualifications.
If you already teach or train in further education, adult learning, community education or workplace training, this qualification will help you develop your skills and gain formal recognition of your teaching practice.
What will I learn?
During the City and Guilds Award in Education and Training, you will investigate:
- roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
- inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training
- assessment in education and training.
Upon successful completion, you will understand the key roles and responsibilities of a teacher or trainer, including relevant legislation, equality, diversity, inclusion, and supporting the needs of individual learners.
You will learn how to plan, sequence and deliver engaging learning sessions using a range of appropriate teaching methods and resources. The course will also introduce you to effective assessment practices, helping you understand how to provide constructive feedback that supports learner progress and achievement.
This course is fully supported by online training materials. An additional time commitment of approximately 30 hours is required for research and further reading.
You will have 2 further weeks after this course to complete written assignments.

I would highly recommend the course to those ... who aspire to enhance their teaching skills and wish to achieve a nationally recognised qualification for teaching.'
