Interested in learning more about caring for babies? The Care of the Infant module introduces the essentials of infant care and feeding to build a strong foundation of knowledge and practical understanding. You can study it as a stand-alone college unit or as part of the Antenatal Educators qualification.
What will I learn?
Successful completion of our Care of the Infant module will enable you to:
- demonstrate an understanding of the newborn period and the adaptations that occur in the newborn baby
- implement and understand the basic principles of newborn care, including temperature regulation, feeding, hygiene, and sleeping
- recognise and respond appropriately to common newborn health issues, including jaundice, respiratory distress, and infection
- understand the importance of promoting parental bonding and attachment, and demonstrate skills in supporting parental involvement in newborn care.
You will study weekly modules via Canvas and benefit from a one-hour drop in, available each Friday via Microsoft Teams, if required.
Entry requirements (minimum)
Care for the Infant is also suitable for those who have successfully completed the HNC Healthcare Practice and wish to enhance their university application for midwifery as well as individuals who have an interest in, or would like to work as, a maternity support assistant, childbirth educator or doula.
Articulation Routes
After completing the modules successfully, candidates can complete further units to obtain the full Glasgow Clyde College Childbirth Educators qualification.
