The Care of the Infant module introduces candidates to the foundations of infant care and feeding. This can be completed as a stand-alone college unit or as part of the Glasgow Clyde College Antenatal Educators qualification.

The course will run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

What will I learn?

Care of the Infant

Learning Outcomes for Care of the Newborn: 

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the newborn period and the adaptations that occur in the newborn baby.
  • Understand and implement the basic principles of newborn care, including temperature regulation, feeding, hygiene, and sleeping. 
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to common newborn health issues, including jaundice, respiratory distress, and infection. 
  • Understand the importance of promoting parental bonding and attachment, and demonstrate skills in supporting parental involvement in newborn care. 

Entry requirements (minimum)

This module is also suitable for individuals who have an interest in or would like to work as a maternity support assistant, childbirth educator, doula. This module is suitable for candidates who have completed the HNC Healthcare Practice programme and wish to enhance their university application for midwifery.

Articulation Routes

After completing the modules successfully, candidates can complete further units to obtain the full Glasgow Clyde College Childbirth Educators qualification.
