With Solar PV booming in recent years and increasing energy prices, demand for Electrical Energy Storage Systems, otherwise known as Battery Storage Systems, is increasing.

The BPEC Electrical Energy (Battery) Storage Systems (EESS) is recognised by Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). Successful candidates are awarded a certificate and ID card which are valid for five years.

Candidates must hold an SVQ Level 3 in a formal craft qualification (e.g. Electrical Installation) and be registered under a Competent Persons Scheme with BS 7671 requirements for Electrical Installations qualification.

What will I learn?

COURSE AVAILABILITY: 

Thursday 16 May and Thursday 23 May (all other courses full). 

Course fee: £450 and includes training, assessment, BPEC manual, registration and certification. The IET Code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems, 2nd Edition is available at an additional cost of £71.50 (no VAT charged).

BPEC Electrical Energy (Battery) Storage Systems, aimed at current practising electricians, electrical technicians, and engineers (with experience in electrical installations and associated inspection and testing) this course provides the necessary training to upskill existing skills to install EESS.

This course covers: 

Section 1 – Introduction to Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS) (battery storage)

Section 2 – Legislation, Standards, and Industry guidance

Section 3 – Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS)

Section 4 – Preparation for Design and Installation

Section 5 – Design and Installation

                 Exercises (example of MGD-003 method)

Section 6 – Initial Verification Methods Relevant to EESS)

Section 7 – Handover and DNO Notification

  • Appendix A – References & Related Documents
  • Appendix B – Abbreviations & Specialist Terms

Course fee includes training, assessment, BPEC manual, registration and certification.

The IET Code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems, 2nd Edition is available at an additional cost of £71.50 (no VAT charged).

This course is categorised as part-time commercial training and is not eligible for any fee waiver or funding via the College. The student is liable for the payment of fees, unless an external training grant or employer support is confirmed at time of booking. 

Entry requirements (minimum)

Trainees should hold a formal craft qualification such as: 

  • SVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (Buildings and Structures) and BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition) qualification.

OR

  • Equivalent earlier certification that includes Inspection & Testing and current BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition) qualification.

Stand-alone technical certificates, vocational or non-competency qualifications are NOT accepted. 

Current trade cards which list an SVQ are accepted in lieu of the SVQ certificate when submitted with an 18th Edition certificate.
