What will I learn?

This Dressmaking Beginners - Level 2 class is a continuation of the Dressmaking Beginners - Level 1, providing each learner with a greater understanding of the progressively harder techniques needed to complete the next project in the series of the 4 basic garment production of ‘Dressmaking’, i.e., a bodice, a dress, a skirt, and trousers.

This fun and creative class provides an intermediate-paced program with more description and commentary accompanying each step of the construction of the ‘toile’ project. In each session, week-by-week sewing techniques and exercises will be learned within the first 4 weeks of the block, allowing each learner to build confidence in their progression in sewing. A few of these techniques include sewing in darts, hemming and creating pockets/vents. These exercises undertaken will be the fundamental techniques used to construct the group ‘toile’ project within the final 4 weeks of the block. So, learners proactively practising these exercises, at home in their own time, will help develop their sewing abilities faster.

Group demonstrations and individual tutorials will also be offered alongside weekly handouts when teaching exercises, which will help each learner to build on their understanding of finishing seams, learning about different methods of fastenings, creating decorative features/stitches and much more. Thus fundamentally allowing learners to take the foundations of these 4 basic garments and build upon them to obtain further advanced dressmaking skills.
