This HND Engineering Systems course will give you the opportunity to expand your skills, knowledge and understanding of engineering systems and processes already gained through the completion of HNC Engineering Systems.

You will receive in depth training on many aspects of electrical and mechanical engineering allowing you to further enhance theories and practices that will benefit you in the workplace or prepare you for progression onto a degree programme.

What will I learn?

Areas of study will include:

  • Practical hands-on engineering skills
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering systems communication
  • Measurement and system monitoring
  • Investigating design
  • System modelling techniques.

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • One higher from Maths, Physics or a science subject along with various passes for the above-mentioned subjects at National 5 level.
  • NC at Level 6, or equivalent, in relevant engineering subject
  • If you do not meet the entry criteria for your chosen course, you may be offered an alternative course in the same subject area.

Articulation Agreement 2022/23 between Glasgow Caledonian University and Glasgow Clyde College 

Year 2 entry:

  • Engineering Mathematics 1, 2, 3 and 4. (H7K0 33, H7K1 34, H7K2 34 and H7K3 35) required

Attendance and pass at Glasgow Caledonian University Maths Summer School is essential for those without Engineering Mathematics 3 and 4 (H7K2 34 and H7K3 35) 

Year 3 entry:

  • Engineering Mathematics 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. (H7K0 33, H7K1 34, H7K2 34, H7K3 35 and H7K4 35) required

Attendance and pass at Glasgow Caledonian University Maths Summer School is essential for those without Engineering Mathematics 5 (H7K4 35)

Jobs and further study

Employment opportunities would include positions of responsibility within an Engineering environment including supervisor/team leader and Lead Engineer

Making an application

For courses starting in August, you can make up to two applications.

Applications are made to a course and a first choice of campus. If the course is oversubscribed at your first choice you will be automatically considered for alternative sites and may be made an offer without a further application.

I've applied — what happens next?

When you apply
You will receive an automated email confirming that we have received your application and will be contacted as per the following stages:

Interview
You will be invited to attend an interview and aptitude test. Please bring your qualifications and references with you.

Aptitude test will cover three areas: mechanical comprehension, electrical comprehension and Numeracy.

You will be informed of the outcome by email within three weeks of applying.

There are four possible outcomes:

  • unconditional offer: you have met all the entry requirements and your place is guaranteed
  • conditional offer: your place is secured pending meeting the entry requirements
  • waiting list: you have met all entry requirements, however, the course is full. If any spaces become available you may be contacted usually around about the course start date.
  • unsuccessful.

Once an offer is received you must reply within 14 working days or risk losing your place.

If a place is unavailable at your campus of first choice, you may be offered a place at one of our other campuses and you must respond to this within the timescale above.

Once you have accepted your offer, you will be sent further information such as an induction date and student funding.
