This HND Electrical Engineering course is ideal for those who wish to develop their skills and competence to a higher level. It will equip you with the skills required to work in industrial, public sector and service organisations.

This course is for entry to Year 2 of HND Electrical Engineering.

What will I learn?

You will complete a range of units such as:

  • Electrical installation design
  • Business awareness and continuing professional development
  • Electrical networks and resonance
  • Fundamentals of control systems and transducers
  • Power electronics
  • Electrical motor drive systems
  • Digital electronics
  • Engineering Mathematics 3 - 5
  • Electrical engineering graded unit 2 – Project based

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • You should have HNC Electrical Engineering with a minimum 'B' pass in the Graded Unit.
  • Ideally, applicants should have completed Engineering Mathematics 2 during Year 1 HNC Electrical Engineering
  • If English is not your first language, then a level 6 ESOL qualification is required, due to the technical demands of the subject. 
  • Applicants for the Day Release course should be employed in a relevant industrial role

Entry to Year 3 of the BEng (Hons) Electrical Power Engineering degree at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU Programme) 

HND Electrical Engineering with Graded Unit 'B' grade required

Jobs and further study

If you complete this course with a Graded Unit 2 result of B or above, you'll be eligible to apply for second or third-year entry to various engineering degree programmes at Glasgow Caledonian University, University of the West of Scotland, Edinburgh Napier University and the Open University. Please note that for direct entry to the third year of university degree programmes, you will be required to successfully achieve HN units in Engineering Mathematics 1 to 5.

You will have the potential to move on to technician or junior level jobs in sectors such as energy, maintenance, design and process engineering.

Making an application

For courses starting in August, you can make up to two applications.

Applications are made to a course and a first choice of campus. If the course is oversubscribed at your first choice you will be automatically considered for alternative sites and may be made an offer without a further application.

You will receive an automated email confirming that we have received your application.

Once you have accepted your offer, you will be sent further information, for example, details of student funding, joining instructions and induction date.

You will be invited to our open day where you can meet with the staff and existing students, you will also be given a tour of the campus

Day Release students will require to attend an interview
