The BPEC Heat Pump Systems (Installation and Maintenance) course is aimed at experienced heating engineers who wish to fit non-refrigerant heat pumps. With increasing targets to cut carbon emissions, the introduction of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) and government grants announced October 2021, consumer demand for this renewable energy source is increasing. The course is nationally recognised and meets the training entry requirements for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

What will I learn?

Delegates will develop the skills and knowledge required to install non refrigerant heat pumps systems within the Building Services Engineering (BSE) renewable sector by means of practical and theoretical assessments covering:

  • Installation
  • Commission
  • Handover
  • Inspection
  • Service and maintenance

Cost £600

This is a part time commercial training course and does not meet the criteria for SAAS funding or Fee Waivers

If applications are open at time of booking delegates can apply for a Skills Development Scotland, Individual Training Account

Ex and current Armed Services Personnel may be eligible for Enhanced Learning Credits

If you are a company enquiring on behalf of an employee the company may be eligible for Flexible Workforce Development Funding (FWDF)

Entry requirements (minimum)

Candidates MUST hold:

  • Water Byelaws 2014 (Scotland)

Candidates MUST hold or be able to declare they are working towards a formal craft qualification e.g. *SVQ 3 in one of the following:

  • Plumbing or;
  • Heating and Ventilating  (Domestic or Commercial or Industrial installation) or;
  • Oil-Fired Technical Services or;
  • Gas Installation and Maintenance or;
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience (supporting evidence required)

*SVQ 3 earlier equivalents are acceptable

Verification must be provided prior to booking and brought to the training for submission in the assessment pack. 

Jobs and further study

This qualification is recognised by the Micro-generation Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies as an acceptable qualification to join one of their respective schemes. 

Making an application

For courses starting in August, you can make up to two applications.

Applications are made to a course and a first choice of campus. If the course is oversubscribed at your first choice you will be automatically considered for alternative sites and may be made an offer without a further application.
