Glasgow Clyde College is proud to be one of the few Scottish City & Guilds Centres offering the Largescale Electric Vehicle Charging Installations course in our brand new purpose built facility located in our Engineering Academy, Cardonald.
With the growth of electric vehicles there is an increasing demand for large-scale EV charging infrastructure. This qualification is designed for practising electricians who wish to progress into large-scale EV Charging.
It will develop knowledge and understanding required to design, install, commission and maintain high-quality large-scale EV charging installations to meet industry demand and support the transition to low and zero-emission transport.
What will I learn?
- Redesigning premises and public spaces to accommodate large-scale EV charging installations
- Large-scale EV charging equipment and associated accessories
- Location, design and types of EV charging points
- Infrastructure requirements for EV charging sites
- Safety requirements for large-scale EV charging installations
- Maintenance of large-scale EV charging systems and installations
- Commissioning and handover procedures
- Quality assurance for large-scale EV charging installations
The course is delivered over 5 consecutive days (Monday to Friday) and includes assessments consisting of:
- Scenario-based questions on design and quality assurance
- Scenario-based questions on installation and maintenance
- A design and quality assurance project, based on a project brief of 5 tasks to be completed within 3 hours
Entry requirements (minimum)
To enrol, candidates must hold:
- SVQ in Electrical Installation at SCQF Level 7 or EAS equivalent
- Up-to-date BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition)
The following qualifications support the design units of the course:
- HNC/D Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- City & Guilds Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (2396)
Electrical/Electronic Engineers may be considered on a case by case basis if they have the relevant practical experience.
Candidates must have access to:
- 18th Edition BS 7671 Wiring Regulations (latest amendment)
- IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation
- IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (Filling Stations)
Making an application
For courses starting in August, you can make up to two applications.
Applications are made to a course and a first choice of campus. If the course is oversubscribed at your first choice you will be automatically considered for alternative sites and may be made an offer without a further application.
