New funding offers opportunities for people across Glasgow
Three new funding opportunities have arrived at Glasgow Clyde College, which aim to tackle child poverty across the city.
The trio of funding openings are delivered by the Raising Income through Skills and Education (RISE), the Training Access Fund and the new Flexible Workforce Development Fund, and provide free training and practical support to help people develop skills, progress at work and increase their earning potential.
RISE supports parents and carers earning less than £33,000 per year to gain the skills and qualifications they need to get into employment, return to work or progress in their current roles. The funding can also help overcome barriers including the cost of childcare and travel.
The Training Access Fund aims to help parents and carers in low-paid work access training that could lead to progression, better-paid opportunities or more secure employment.
Finally, the new Flexible Workforce Development Fund (FWDF) aims to support employers providing training for staff earning less than £33,000 per year. This includes parents and carers, those under 24 and some care-experienced or disabled employees under 30.
The new FWDF is focussed on helping people increase their earnings, supporting fair work and contributing to Scotland’s wider ambition to tackle child poverty.
Robert Anderson, Assistant Principal at Glasgow Clyde College said: “The cost of living continues to be felt across the country, with many families having to make difficult decisions to ensure they can make ends meet. In Scotland, 1 in 5 children live in relative poverty.*
“We’re pleased to welcome three new funding opportunities that aim to support people into fair, well-paid jobs, further skillsets and offer advice on the rising costs of living. We hope that through this funding, we are able to assist low-income households and can contribute to the tackling of child poverty that unfortunately, many families are experiencing.”
A breakfast briefing was also held recently to introduce the funding streams to employers, partners and stakeholders. It was great to highlight how this funding can help employees access training, build confidence, develop new skills, progress in their careers and increase their earning potential.
