This CMI Level 2 Award in Team Leading (Distance Learning) qualification is designed for practicing or aspiring team leaders to support the development of their skills in leading a team, making sure that the team’s work achieves organisational objectives, and contributes to planning, problem solving and decision making.

What will I learn?

During the CMI Level 2 Team Leading, participants will complete 1 unit:

2008 Being a team leader

This unit is about the responsibilities of a team leader and the impact of leadership style and motivational techniques on team performance. On completion of the unit, you will understand:

  • Organisational requirements for a team leader
  • A range of leadership styles applicable to different situations
  • How the team leader builds a shared sense of purpose with a team

Assignments and accreditation
Participants are required to submit an assignment for the unit.

The qualifications have been designed for practising or aspiring managers in roles such as:

  • Team Leader
  • Supervisor
  • Project Officer
  • Shift Manager
  • Foreperson

The course is delivered distance learning with 1-2-1 remote support visits from the tutor as required. It is expected that learners will complete this Award within 3 months.

CMI Levels explained:

Levels 2 and 3
Designed for aspiring, supervisory or first-line managers. Levels 2 and 3 offer a broad range of knowledge, ranging from team leading to project and resource management.

Levels 4 and 5
For mid-managers, Levels 4 and 5 are more appropriate as they focus on developing core management skills such as managing resources, recruitment and information management.

Levels 6 and 7
Levels 6 and 7 are developed for senior managers who have the responsibility to translate organisational strategy into effective performance.

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • There are no formal entry requirements however as the units are traditionally assessed through assignment-based work therefore you will need to have a good understanding of the English language and writing.
  • Some basic ICT skills will also be required to research, produce your work and send it to the tutor for marking. We can support you with any learning needs you may have.
  • Ideally, you need to be working within an organisation or role where you can demonstrate skills and apply knowledge. Alternatively, you could draw on previous experience within an organisation or use an organisation you are familiar with.
