This hands-on DIY at Home - Level 1 course is ideal for anyone who would like to learn DIY skills and covers three key areas: joinery, tiling and plumbing.
What will I learn?
This DIY course will show you how to perform small maintenance tasks within your home. You will learn traditional methods including measuring, cutting and applying the fundamentals of joinery, tiling and plumbing skills to small dedicated projects. Skills that may be included are:
Joinery
- Partition/frame construction
- Plasterboard cutting, fitting and repair
- Setting out, cutting and fitting of internal architraves such as skirtings and facings
- Lock and latch repair
- Door maintenance
Tiling
- Measuring out sizes for tiles and making gauge rod
- Starting tiling, using spacers and tiling tools
- Continuing tiling, measuring cuts and using a tile saw
- Finishing off tiling, grout tiles and clean tiles
- Attaching bathroom/kitchen fittings to tiles using a cordless drill
Plumbing
- introduction to tools and fittings and basic hot and cold water supply,
- wastewater fittings and installation.
- removal of radiators for decorating purposes.
- fitting of outside taps.
The price of the course includes the cost of all materials used.
Entry requirements (minimum)
No previous experience of working with wood or using hand tools is required, we recommend that you complete the DIY at Home course first before moving on to one of the Woodcraft courses.
