The City & Guilds 2391-52 Combined Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection and Testing course is for practising electricians. It is designed to expand knowledge and skills of both initial verification and periodic inspection and testing in line with industry regulations. On successful completion this course can enhance professional development and progression into roles requiring this level of testing.

What will I learn?

Candidates will learn about key legislation, inspection and testing techniques, issuing certificates and reports and interpreting results and measurements. This provides an understanding of initial verification and periodic inspection and testing across domestic, commercial and industrial environments, in both new and existing properties within the UK.

This course is not suitable for those new to the electrotechnical industry.

Training is delivered in line with BS7671:2022 (18th Edition Amendment 3). Due to significant updates, all candidates must have a copy of the current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (brown) to undertake this course. Guidance Note 3 is included as part of the course fee. 

Assessment

Candidates are assessed by means of a:

  • Online multiple-choice test

  • Written exam

  • Practical assessment

Assessment arrangements are finalised during the course and may require additional attendance. The course is delivered over either 7 day or 14 evening sessions usually in te format of one session per week. 

A basic level of IT skills is beneficial for accessing online resources and undertaking the online assessment (completed on a College-provided PC or laptop). If you require IT support, please advise us at the time of booking.

As this course is part-time commercial training, it is not eligible for fee waivers or College funding. Fees must be paid by the student unless information is provided to verify an employer or external funding source will pay the fees.

Entry requirements (minimum)

City & Guilds reviewed the competence requirements for periodic inspection and testing activity to improve quality and safety within the industry. 

Therefore, to enrol you must be a qualified electrician and have all of the following:

  • Current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations BS7671 certificate (amendment 2 recommended)
  • Level 3 electrotechnical qualification such as SVQ Electrical Installation
  • Sufficient electrical industry experience

Candidates are recommended to have access to the following: 

  • Laptop or Smart device
  • Internet / WiFi
  • Microsoft Teams 

This will enable access to e-learning materials and a communication channel with the trainer and training group between sessions. Office 365 Service is included in your student account which you will have access to for the duration of the course.

For courses starting in August, you can make up to two applications.

Applications are made to a course and a first choice of campus. If the course is oversubscribed at your first choice you will be automatically considered for alternative sites and may be made an offer without a further application.
