Articulate to PDA Plus Childhood Practice is designed to enhance the professional development of practitioners who wish to add credits to their existing qualifications at SCQF Level 8 and allow for progression or articulation to a Childhood Practice programme at SCQF Level 9, such as the PDA Plus Childhood Practice (Level 9) or the BA in Childhood Practice.

The course is delivered on a part-time, flexible basis.

What will I learn?

The course contains three SVQ units which are focussed on competent practice in relation to play, contemporary frameworks and leadership.

The units are assessed within the workplace with the support of an SVQ Assessor. There is access to online learning and reference materials on the College virtual learning environment, and to an e portfolio to track assessment progress.

The SVQ units are designed to take account of previous learning at SCQF Level 8, such as the PDA Childhood Practice at SCQF Level 8, and are all at SCQF Level 8. Together these units offer 40 credits.

Entry requirements (minimum)

You should already have qualifications in the sector that allow registration by the SSSC as a Practitioner at SCQF Level 7, for example:

  • HNC in Childhood Practice

  • SVQ Social Services: Children and Young People (SCQF Level 7)
  • or equivalent.

You should already have qualifications that contain 80 credits at SCQF Level 8 or above, for example:

  • Edinburgh University: Froebel in childhood practice course

Employer and industry links

Jobs and further study

Progression routes to PDA in Childhood Practice: Leadership and Management at SCQF Level 9, or the BA in Childhood Practice and will enable the development of the skills and knowledge required to lead and manage services for children and young people.

Further employment opportunities to progress to lead practitioner or manager roles.

When you apply

You will receive an automated email confirming that we have received your application and will be in contact as per the following stages:

  • Selection will be by assessment of qualifications and interview
  • If you meet the entry requirements you will be invited for interview
  • The process will consist of an individual interview with a member of the lecturing team. You will be required to bring evidence of qualifications.
  • Selection outcomes are based upon careful consideration of interview performance, qualifications and/or relevant work experience. One of three selection outcomes will be made for you and will be sent by email within 10 working days of the interview.

The selection outcomes are ‘unconditional offer’; ‘conditional offer’, or ‘unsuccessful’. Any conditions to your offer will be clearly outlined in this email.

Once an offer is received, you must reply within 10 working days or risk losing your place.

If you are made a conditional offer, you must provide the required evidence (qualifications, references or other details) as soon as it is available or risk losing your place.
