This course will help you build a deeper understanding of palliative and end of life care.
You’ll learn how to take a holistic and team based approach to supporting people who are receiving palliative care or nearing the end of life. You will also looks at how to support families or loved ones through bereavement and loss.
To pass this module, you’ll complete two assessments.
What will I learn?

What palliative care means and why it matters

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team

The ethics of palliative care, including discussions around current national strategies and proposed legislation

The importance of a multi professional approach looking at who’s involved in providing care and how they work together

How to assess a person’s needs, manage common symptoms, and focus on maintaining or improving their quality of life

Supporting someone who is nearing end of life, including understanding their wishes and managing their physical and emotional needs

Cultural practices and beliefs around death, as well as the legal and official procedures that need to happen after someone dies

How to communicate effectively with families and significant others, and how to support them through grief and loss
This module brings together practical knowledge, reflection, and an understanding of the values behind person centred end of life care.
Entry requirements (minimum)
As this is an SCQF Level 8 module, it’s recommended that you already hold an HNC or equivalent qualification.
