Are you new to the playful art of needlework? Our new Introduction to Hand Embroidery course will cover foundational hand embroidery stitches, before elevating into fun and experimental variations.
Over the block of eight classes, you will learn foundational stitches before combining your techniques to make a final botanical embroidered art piece using repurposed textiles.
This course will not only provide you with new skills to develop your creative expression but also allow you to meet with like-minded people, enjoying the meditative and portable craft of hand embroidery.
What will I learn?
This Introduction to Hand Embroidery course aims to develop both your technique and your expressive style. You will cover:
- Basic hand embroidery stitches
- Preparing an embroidery hoop
- Creating experimental, fun and playful variations of basic stitches
- Creating texture and dimension using for example, couching, stump work, beads and French knot
- Transforming a botanical image into final embroidered art piece
- Creating a final hand embroidered art piece using techniques and stitches learned
- Using recycled textiles and accessories/ found objects
- Practising mindfulness as you embroider.
You should bring:
- Embroidery floss (pack of multiple-coloured threads)
- 1 x wooden embroidery hoop 8” (if participants wish to keep sampler work in hoop they can purchase more / large one for final sample)
- Embroidery floss needles and crewel needle for wool
- Embroidery scissors
- Water soluble pen.
These items will have an approximate cost of £35.
Entry requirements (minimum)
No experience or expert knowledge is required - only enthusiam and an interest in developing your embroidery skills.
