NC Applied Sciences - Level 6

This National Group Award course is ideal for students who wish to pursue careers in a range of biological and chemical sciences, such as Biotechnology, Biomedical sciences, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology and Chemistry.  

The course develops knowledge of the sciences from National 5, and also helps students to build the practical, communication, mathematical and ICT skills needed to progress to our HNC Applied Sciences, HND Biotechnology, and HND Biological Sciences courses. Successful completion of the course, in addition to satisfactory references from staff will result in students being given priority placement on our HNC and HND courses.

Assessment will be continuous with a mixture of practical and theoretical assessments. There is no final examination.

Entry requirements (minimum)

SCQF level 5 (National 5, Intermediate 2 or Standard Grade) A/B or 1/2 in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and English or equivalent qualifications.

Progression routes

Students looking to progress to HNC and HND programmes will be required to demonstrate a consistently high level of commitment and understanding throughout the course.

  • Successful completion of the NC Applied Science (Level 6) course can allow students to apply for employment in a range of laboratory-based and bioscience-related occupations.
