NC Introduction to Graphic Design and Illustration (January 2018)

Study with us on this Introduction to Graphic Design and Illustration course and you will learn all the different elements of the design process and how they work together.

You will tackle different design/illustration briefs along with technical tutorials that will enable you to grow your skills and expertise. It is our aim to grow your creativity and confidence as a graphic designer/illustrator and to ensure that you are ready to take the next steps.

Graphic design and illustration is all around us, from billboards to magazines, packaging and logos, you will encounter the work of a graphic designer and illustrator many times every day. So if you are creative and enjoy problem solving, then graphic design/illustration is a good career choice.

This course is ideal for anyone looking to learn and develop skills within the area of graphic design and illustration. You will gain an understanding and practical knowledge of typography, poster design and digital design, analytical drawing, illustration styles, colour theory and photography. By the end, you'll have a better grasp of what graphic designers and illustrators do and what course you can apply to next.

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • Evidence of an interest in Art and Design as shown within your personal statement
  • Preferably three passes at Standard Grade General or National 4 including English or ESOL equivalent. However, applications are also invited from those without formal qualifications but who have relevant life and/or work experience. If English is not your first language and you have no formal qualifications, you will still be considered for the course but will be required  to complete a short ESOL assessment.
  • A satisfactory reference
