Looking for an opportunity to start your fashion career? This basic foundation level course will develop your knowledge and skills in Fashion Design. You will be taught in purpose built facilities by a team of dedicated professionals with a depth of industry experience and expertise in a variety of fashion disciplines. This foundation level fashion design-led programme is an SQA group award and leads to a National Certificate in Fashion. It is aimed at helping students progress to a number of fashion-related HND courses within the School of Fashion and Textiles.
This course offers a basic level introduction to fashion design. You will have the opportunity to work through the design process from research and design development to creating basic garments through step by step pattern cutting, garment construction and surface decoration. You will gain basic skills in pattern cutting and sewing for skirts, trousers and bodices culminating in two design and make projects.
You will learn how to operate both domestic and industrial sewing machines as well as how to research and develop ideas through drawing, photography and design development and how to professionally present your ideas using CAD and a variety of multimedia techniques.
The learning is student centred and will be mostly studio and workshop based with the emphasis on learning practical skills.
Progression from NC to HNC/HND is not guaranteed and is dependent on suitable progression through course work as well as satisfactory attendance, timekeeping and commitment.
