Drawing and Painting - Beginners

This course is ideal for beginners who would like to learn drawing and painting techniques. It is a flexible course that can be as structured or free-flowing as you like.

Course content include

  • line drawings: structure and measuring by eye
  • tonal workshop: light, shade and shape
  • Cubism: experimenting with shape and structure using paint
  • painting in colour: focusing on how artists do still lives
  • an introduction to portraits: exploring the face using tone and line
  • an introduction to figure drawing: easy and realistic ways to draw people
  • ink:experimenting with different media via landscape.


Initially you will be required to bring HB and 2B pencils and cartridge paper. You may wish to experiment with other media, which you'll be shown how to use on an individual basis.
