PDA Criminology

This criminology course aims to extend or broaden professional or vocational skills and provide an understanding of criminology including its contribution to the modern world and human behaviour.

This course is designed for those who wish to pursue, or extend their career in the areas of legal services, social science or police studies. 

Course content

the course consists of 2 SQA units 1 in psychology and 1 in criminology.

Psychology A : History and Development of Psychology which looks at the 4 schools of thought in psychology and how these have developed

Criminology: Introduces the topics and debates that inform contemporary criminology, crime and the criminal justice system.

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • we require a pass in Higher English and experience of one other social science subject
  • we will take into account other qualification and work experience.

Progression routes

This PDA can be used towards a Higher National qualification in social science and can be used to support progression in a variety of work or study contexts.
