This is a fast-paced art and design course with creative abstract thinking at its core. The teaching environment is ideal for anyone looking to build a portfolio required for entry into Art School.
Unique opportunities are offered to students involving residencies and collaborations with established art institutions, enabling students to develop their own ideas and concepts.
The course content is delivered by a team of established and practising artists and designers, which covers drawing, painting, two-dimensional design, three-dimensional design, illustrative sculpture, and observational drawing. You will join a general class combining fine art and design, which is ideal if you're unsure what area best suits your skills.
Throughout this art and design course you will work on your own portfolio. Tutor support is provided on a one-to-one basis throughout this process providing invaluable advice about which direction to head with projects; ensuring the preparation of a portfolio that is well-rounded with a diversity of media and project types. In each project you will work on source drawing, design development and creative solutions. Life drawing is an important element and this is provided by the College.
Artist residencies are offered throughout this course. Previous venues have included House for an Art Lover and Sal Mor Ostaig in Skye.
Throughout the course, guest professional artists and designers deliver skills based workshops.
You will be taken to open days and exhibitions, given assistance with the UCAS process, and helped prepare for your art school interview and the submission of your portfolio.

Student Claudia Veneroni graduated from the course in 2014 and found it invaluable.
"When I started the course I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in the future, but the tutors all supported me in making a decision. I am really happy that I have been offered, and have accepted, a place at Glasgow School of Art to study Textiles next year.
"The course was really intense but it was worth it, and the tutors were amazing. It was really good to know that they had all been to art school and they passed that knowledge to us.
"Doing the Portfolio Preparation course gave me a really good basis for applying to Art school. The course gave me a really good idea of the demands of Art School and of working to briefs.
"All the hard work was worth it and I would really recommend this course to anyone who is thinking about studying a Portfolio Preparation course."
