HND/BA Textiles (Specialising in Weave and Print)

BA-Textiles

(Joint Delivery with Heriot-Watt University)

This is a unique and highly creative Associate Degree Programme that is directly linked into year 3 of the Woven and Printed Textile Pathways at Heriot-Watt University. Students will be dual enrolled at both institutes and will be based at the Cardonald Campus for the first two years of the course where they will follow a discreet HND Textile programme focusing on woven and printed textiles. At the end of year 2 students will transfer to Heriot-Watt University Galashiels Campus to complete year 3 and 4 of the degree, where they will specialise in one of the pathways.

It is a design-led textiles course that focuses on industry-led woven and printed textile processes which fully explores the possibilities of both pathways before specialism selection at the Heriot-Watt campus. All course work is project-based and students experiment with a variety of materials and techniques for weave and print and also gain skills in machine embroidery, fabric manipulation, drawing and design development. We have well established links with many high profile companies enabling live industry projects to be included throughout the course. A recent sponsored live project included designing a range of printed and woven interior samples for Bute Fabrics. Teaching resources are developed in line with the university modules. The lecturing staff is made up of a dedicated team of professionals with a breadth of experience within the creative industries. Successful candidates will already have a keen interest in woven or printed textiles.

Candidates who are still wishing to explore all other aspects of textile design should apply for HND Fashion Textiles instead.
