Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) Certificate Exam Class

The class is aimed at advanced level students and will focus on preparing students for the Cambridge Advanced English exam. 

Course content

The course will focus on preparing students for the Cambridge Advanced English exam. 

This is an internationally-known qualification. It proves that you can use an advanced level of written and spoken English effectively in professional and academic contexts. It has widespread recognition in commerce and industry, being recognised by a number of global employers and is also recognised as an entry level requirement for undergraduate and post-graduate university courses.

It will provide tuition in a wide range of English language skills:

  • grammar
  • reading
  • writing
  • speaking
  • listening.

The course also covers essential exam techniques.

Exams 

The CAE exam is optional and the fee, which is to be paid to the external assessment centre, is £140.

 Funding

This course is eligible for SDS Individual Learning Account (ILA) funding. If you are using an ILA to fund / part fund this course, please call 0141 272 3276 to enrol. We're unable to accept ILA funds as a deposit. 


Entry requirements (minimum)

This course is designed for people for whom English is not their first language, and who would like to develop their language skills in order to pursue a career or to be able to apply for a university course.

This course is intended for learners for whom a qualification which is recognised world-wide is desirable. 

Learners will have considerable competence in English, but need to improve their language skills in order to achieve the level required for university entrance. Ideally, students should already have a Cambridge FCE of National 6 qualification.

Progression routes

Cambridge Advanced English is recognised as an entry level requirement for undergraduate and post-graduate university courses. The certificate may also be used as proof of ability to use English at an advanced level in a working environment.

On successful completion of the exam which is payable separately and will depend on the student being accepted for entry, students can apply for SQA ESOL Higher (ESOL Advanced) or progress onto non-ESOL courses.
