The Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) provides you the skills and knowledge required to work effectively as a teacher of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

CELTA is awarded and administered by the University of Cambridge (ESOL Examinations) and is one of the most widely-recognised qualifications for people who wish to become professional teachers of English language.

Qualification Breakdown

This course is ideal if you have no experience of teaching English as a foreign language, but also if you are a more experienced teacher looking to gain a teaching qualification.

It develops an awareness of both the English language itself and language teaching methodology. It also has a strong emphasis on practical teaching skills, through daily teaching practice with language students.

Fee: £2,000 (part-time) or £2,500 (short intensive).

Entry requirements

You will need a very good standard of English language skills, at least IELTS level 7. You will be required to be interviewed, which can be done via telephone or Skype. You may need a Short-term Study Visa.

Attendance Pattern

Start date: Start dates throughout the year.

Duration: 20 weeks (part-time) or 4 weeks + 2 weeks induction (short intensive).

Hours per week: 6 hours over 2 evenings (part-time) or 120 hours (short intensive).
