The BPEC Electricity for Plumbers course at Glasgow Clyde College is a part time commercial training course which aims to help plumbers and heating engineers who work on central heating electrical control systems to work safely and comply with the appropriate standards.

What will I learn?

While not aiming to turn plumbers, gasfitters and heating engineers into electricians, this short course will give them the necessary skills and knowledge to maintain and repair modern gas appliances.

This BPEC Electricity for Plumbers course provides a basic knowledge of electrical installation, circuits and fault finding and covers: 

  • The basics of electricity
  • Domestic house wiring
  • Central heating control systems
  • Fault finding
  • Central heating appliance components
  • Safe isolation

As this course is categorised as part-time commercial training, it is not eligible for any fee waiver or funding via the College. The student is liable for the payment of fees, unless an external training grant or employer support is confirmed at time of booking. 

Entry requirements (minimum)

Candidates MUST have one of the following:

  • A formal qualification such as SVQ Level 3 heating engineering or plumbing or electrical trades;
  • Evidence of undertaking a course in heating engineering or plumbing which will lead to a formal qualification such as SVQ Level 3 heating and ventilation or plumbing or;
  • Experience in either conventional heating engineering or plumbing (supporting evidience required); 

*Verification must be provided prior to booking and brought to the training for submission in the assessment pack. 

Jobs and further study

On completion operatives will have the skills to undertake basic electrical installation, circuits and fault finding to assist in their day to day operations as a plumber of heating engineer.

Making an application

For courses starting in August, you can make up to two applications.

Applications are made to a course and a first choice of campus. If the course is oversubscribed at your first choice you will be automatically considered for alternative sites and may be made an offer without a further application.
