If you enjoy embroidery or are looking to enhance your art portfolio, this textile techniques course at Glasgow Clyde College will help you develop and build on your creative abilities. The focus of the course is to produce a concept garment, while giving you an insight into the world of fashion and textiles.
What will I learn?
Working with two specialist staff, this combined Textiles Techniques will allow you to explore a wealth of techniques which will equip you with a hybrid of skills to create a collection of final fabric samples.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have needed to adapt the delivery of the Textile Techniques evening class and remove the Screen Printing element of the course. Our focus will be hand skills such as embroidery and fabric manipulation. You will start off with various hand embroidery stitches and learn how to use them in textiles. You will learn how to change the thickness of thread to show weight of line and fabric manipulation techniques that can be used to make your textiles more 3D.
You will require to have the following resources:
- Access to Laptop/Tablet for remote delivery
- Selection of fabrics, plain neutral colours if possible
- Embroidery Hoop
- Hand Embroidery threads
- Hand Sewing needles
- Sketchbook or folder would be good but not essential
If you do not have any of the above materials the course lecturer can have most of these put together in a pack created by Abacus Resources, this will cost around £15 - £20. If this is something you would be interested in having set-up, please let us know and you will be able to purchase online direct from them. Otherwise you can purchase these independently.
