This course is designed to give you an introductory experience in both sport and fitness. It provides a taste of the underpinning knowledge and skills required in order to progress onto Sport and Fitness courses at level 5 and 6.

What will I learn?

Units may include:

  • Sporting Activities: An Introduction. This may include a range of games and sports such as association football, basketball, short tennis and swimming
  • Physical education: An activity approach
  • Exercise and fitness: An introduction
  • Exercise and fitness units which include a range of activities such as circuits, resistance training and current exercise trends
  • Human physiology in development of performance
  • Personal learning support plan (PLSP)
  • Working with others
  • Aquatics
  • Personal wellbeing

Please note that due to the impact of COVID-19, this course will be delivered via a blended learning approach - which may include limited face-to-face learning on campus combined with remote learning off-campus and digital learning approaches. If and when delivery is taking place on-campus, there will be reduced student numbers and physical distancing measures in place. If you require any support in learning digitally please inform the Course Leader or Student Support team.

  • Experience of participating in Sport and Fitness regularly

The College has good industry links with Glasgow Life, active schools, private fitness and health providers throughout Glasgow. Learners are asked to assist at external events.

When you apply:

You will receive an automated email confirming that we have received your application and will be in contact as per the following stages:

  • Selection will be by - information session followed by a brief written assignment, assessment of qualifications and interview
  • The process will consist of an interview, references must be supplied before interviews take place, proof of qualifications must be supplied before an offer can be made

Selection will take place within 4 weeks of applying, no interviews will take place before November interviews will take place between December and January

You will be informed of the outcome of the selection process by email within 10 working days of the interview.

Once an offer is received you must reply within 10 working days or risk losing your place.

If a place is unavailable at your campus of first choice, you may be offered a place at one of our other campuses and you must respond to this within the timescale above.

Once you have accepted your offer, you will be sent further information e.g. Student Funding, Joining Instructions, Kit list, Induction date
