Study with us on the Access to HND Graphic Design and Illustration and you will learn all the different elements of the design process which will enable you to progress onto our HND Graphic Design, HND Illustration or Foundation in Graphic Design and Illustration if you are looking for more experience.

You will tackle different design/illustration briefs along with technical tutorials that will enable you to grow your skills and expertise. It is our aim to grow your creativity and confidence as a graphic designer/illustrator and to ensure that you are ready to take the next step.

What will I learn?

Graphic design and illustration is all around us, from billboards to magazines, packaging and logos, you will encounter the work of a graphic designer and illustrator many times every day. So if you are creative and enjoy problem solving then access to HND Graphic Design or HND Illustration is a good career choice.

This course is ideal for anyone looking to learn and develop skills within the area of graphic design and/or illustration. You will gain an understanding and practical knowledge of typography, poster design and digital design, analytical drawing, illustration styles, professional development and a personal project where will have the opportunity to work on a piece of graphic design or illustration of your choosing. By the end, you'll have a better grasp of what graphic designers and illustrators do and what course you can apply to next.

The majority of our on the BA Hons Graphic Design cohort/s are former HND Graphic Design or HND Illustration graduates from Glasgow Clyde College.

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • Evidence of an interest in art and design as shown within your personal statement
  • Preferably two passes at National 4, or equivalent, including English or ESOL equivalent
  • Applications are also invited from those without formal qualifications but who have relevant life and/or work experience.
  • If English is not your first language and you have no formal qualifications, you will still be considered for the course but will be required to complete a short ESOL assessment.

When you apply: 

You will receive an automated email confirming that we have received your application 
and will be in contact as per the following stages: 

  • Students will be sent information about the course in advance of a 1:1 interview being set up. This interview session could be remote using Teams (please download the App). Or if you prefer, we can accommodate on campus interview.  
  • Interviews will take place between December 2022– early January 2023. 

You will be informed of the outcome of the selection process by email within 10 working days of the interview. 

Once an offer is received you must reply within 10 working days or risk losing your place. 
Once you have accepted your offer, you will be sent further information e.g., Student Funding, Joining Instructions, materials, Induction date and timetable.
