Is it your dream to become a primary teacher? This brand new and exciting course will give you the basic qualifications to progress to an undergraduate degree in primary teaching. You will study Higher English and National 5 Application of Maths while learning some key skills needed to be an effective primary teacher.

You will gain skills in sports coaching to deliver physical education and you will gain an introduction to Spanish and/or British Sign Language to support you in developing your learners' linguistic skills. You will also learn basic theories of teaching and learning and how to support the behaviour and needs of your learners.

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • National 5 English 
  • National 4 Maths 
  • An interest in a career in primary teaching 
  • A competitive interview will be part of the process for entry.

If you do not meet the entry criteria for your chosen course, you may be offered an alternative course in the same subject area.

Jobs and further study

This course gives you the basic qualifications to pursue teaching as a career. You will have a designated guidance contact throughout to support you in applying to university or for further college study.  Please note that entry to primary teaching is very competitive so we will support you to find alternative back up options too. 

You can progress from this course to the BA Hons in Primary Education at the University of Strathclyde. You will benefit from application and career information from tutors at the University of Strathclyde in bespoke workshops.   

You may have the suitable entry requirements to apply for other universities. 

Successfully completing this course will allow progression to  HNC Childhood Practice and other relevant areas at Glasgow Clyde College. 

Making an application

For courses starting in August, you can make up to two applications.

Applications are made to a course and a first choice of campus. If the course is oversubscribed at your first choice you will be automatically considered for alternative sites and may be made an offer without a further application.
