Are you looking to get into the health or medical industries? Do you want to study nursing, paramedic science or midwifery but you don’t have the mandatory entry qualifications? This brand new course will enable you to achieve the qualifications required to progress to a number of health and medical courses where mandatory entry qualifications include Higher English, Higher Human Biology and National 5 Maths.

You will also have a designated guidance contact throughout to support you in applying to university or further study at college. 

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • You should have passes at grade 'B' in National 5 English and National 5 Biology and a pass in National 4 Maths

If you do not meet the entry criteria for your chosen course, you may be offered an alternative course in the same subject area.

Jobs and further study

This course gives you the basic qualifications to pursue further studies in medical or healthcare subjects. 

Successfully completing this course may allow for progression to HNC Healthcare Practice at Glasgow Clyde College, subject to meeting the required entry requirements.

Achieving this qualification will allow you to apply to a number of undergraduate degrees where Higher Human Biology, Higher English and Nat 5 Maths are mandatory requirements such as paramedic science, midwifery and nursing. 

Making an application

For courses starting in August, you can make up to two applications.

Applications are made to a course and a first choice of campus. If the course is oversubscribed at your first choice you will be automatically considered for alternative sites and may be made an offer without a further application.

I've applied — what happens next?

When you apply:

You will receive an automated email confirming that we have received your application and will be in contact as per the following stages:

  • You should complete your application form with as much detail as possible, as this information will be used to select interviewees, and then inform the interview process. Selected applicants will be invited to a group information session, followed by a one-to-one interview.
  • You will be offered an interview date, and will be invited to a group information session, followed by a one-to-one interview. In some campuses, this process may be by one-to-one interview only. If you have been asked to provide a reference, you should bring this reference to the interview.
  • Interviews for this course will take place in June and August.
  • You will be informed of the selection decision within 14 working days of the interview. If you have been offered an ‘unconditional’ place, you must accept this within 14 days. If you have been offered a ‘conditional’ place, the letter will detail the conditions you have to meet.
  • Once an offer is received you must accept within 14 working days or risk losing your place.
