Glasgow Clyde College and Mairi McDonald offer a unique fashion writing course

Glasgow Clyde College is running a unique evening class in the art of fashion feature writing and styling. Taught by fashion designer and The Herald’s ‘Trendspotter’, Mairi McDonald, the course will give a true insight into the world of fashion, styling and feature writing for blogs, newspapers and magazines.

“I designed the course content to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to research and write a feature fashion article and then to style an accompanying photo shoot;” commented Mairi.

A graduate of Cardonald College and London College of Fashion, Mairi has had an extensive design career across womenswear, menswear and textile design working with high-profile, luxury labels such as Julien MacDonald, national and international brands. Mairi recently launched her own eponymous luxury label and in 2013 winning the Scotland Re:Designed New Talent Award before going on to showcase her debut collection to an international audience in London, 2014.

In addition to her successful design career, Mairi is a Fashion Lecturer, a Freelance Fashion Writer and Trend Reporter with experience in styling fashion shoots for brands and editorials.

Continuing, Mairi said: “I think the level of interest in a career in fashion has escalated and it is not just design that is the desired path. This will broaden current fashion students skills for future roles in industry and will be a great starting point for those interested in fashion or media and thinking of going onto full time study.’’

The course runs for 12 weeks and covers the key components required to write a strong feature article from a range of publications. Students will be learning the process of successfully structuring, researching, writing and styling a fashion feature article.
