Dance Students

Talented dance students from Glasgow Clyde College will fly the flag for Scotland as they perform alongside Britain’s oldest contemporary dance company after impressing in a national choreography exhibition.

The students, who are studying HND Dance Artists at the award-winning Dance Studio Scotland at Glasgow Clyde College, were among six top Scottish groups to perform in front of an esteemed selection panel at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre as part of the Rambert Elements exhibition. As the winning group, the students have been invited to perform alongside Rambert dancers and the Rambert Orchestra at a special showcase in London’s West End in June.

Maxine Railton, senior lecturer at Dance Studio Scotland at Glasgow Clyde College, said: “I’m delighted that the hard work that is put in here at Dance Studio Scotland at Glasgow Clyde College by the staff and students is being rewarded on such a prestigious platform.

“I think the experience for students will be amazing. It will be wonderful to be on stage with Rambert dancers, accompanied by the Rambert Orchestra.”

Maxine is happy that the hard work of staff and students at Dance Studio Scotland, whichis based in a purpose-built facility at Glasgow Clyde College's Anniesland Campus, has been recognised. Equipped with three large studios and a multi-gym, it offers a thorough and disciplined four-year professional training programme that prepares students for a variety of careers in the dance industry.

Twenty-year-old Stephanie Alexander from East Kilbride, part of the winning group, added: “It’s a great platform for us to show what we are capable of. I’ve loved Rambert’s work since I was a child and it will be a dream come true to perform alongside them.”
