NQ Transition to Mainstream

This course is designed to support young people who have additional support for learning needs but have the potential to move onto mainstream courses in the future. The course will help you to gain the necessary skills and qualifications and confidence to apply for other college courses.

You will further develop your core essential skills, personal interests, ideas and aspirations. The course will help you to build your knowledge about progression routes and will equip you with the skills to access these.

All students have a Personal Learning and Support Plan to enable each student’s learning to be tailored to suit their needs and goals. All students receive personalised guidance and support at regular meetings.  

Students can apply for financial help in the form of a bursary.

Course content

Content may include:
  • Core Essential Skills: - IT, Literacy, Numeracy, Working with Others and Problem Solving
  • Research Skills
  • Time Management and Organisational Skills
  • Citizenship
  • Progression Routes
  • Form filling and interview techniques
  • Enterprise/Team Working

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • SQA qualifications at SCQF Level 3 or 4
  • Ability to engage and participate at the level required for this course (as evidenced at the selection day)
  • Ability to work independently and with others
  • Be an independent traveller or have your own travel arrangements.

Applications are made to a course and a first choice of campus. If the course is oversubscribed at your first choice you will be automatically considered for alternative sites and may be made an offer without a further application.
