NQ Sport and Fitness - Level 6

This course is designed to give students the skill, expertise and relevant vocational qualifications to work within the leisure industry. It also provides the knowledge required to progress onto the HND Coaching and Developing Sport or HND Fitness, Health and Exercise. 

A PVG will be required to undertake any coaching placement / work experience which may be included in the course.

This course contains practical elements and applicants should ensure that they are physically fit enough to undertake the practical elements of the course.

Course content

The course consists of Level 5 and 6 units which cover a range of practical and theoretical sports related units. Units may include (depending on which campus you study):

  • Human physiology 
  • Basic sports coaching techniques
  • Developing volunteers 
  • Outdoor education 
  • Indoor games and sport 
  • Circuit training, fixed and free weights 
  • Planning personal fitness
  • Exercise to music 

A programme of team building and leadership skills is undertaken along with Level 6 Communications, Level 5 Information Technology, First Aid certificate and national governing body sports and fitness industry awards.

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • Three relevant subjects at National Level 5 with C pass or above, one of which must be English, or
  • Any relevant Level 5 course such as NQ Sport and Fitness (Level 5) or Introduction to Sport and Fitness (January Start), including a pass at Level 5 Communications 
  • All applicants must have an active interest in sport or fitness
  • Entry will be by interview, a short written test and 2 acceptable references to determine suitability for this course. A practical assessment may also be included. 
  • Applications are also invited from those without formal qualification but who can demonstrate an active interest in fitness or sport and have relevant life and/or work experience.
