NQ Health Care - Level 5

This course is designed to offer candidates the skills and qualifications to enable them to progress to further training and education or to seek employment within this area. 

Course content

 Units may include:

  • Prevention of Infection
  • First Aid
  • Mental Health Issues – An Introduction
  • Care: Human Development and Behaviour
  • Safety in a Care Environment
  • Care: Social Influences
  • Care: Value and Principles
  • Physiology of the cardiovascular system
  • Communication
  • Healthy Eating in Care Settings

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • Four Standard Grades at general level, or equivalent National 4s, one of which must be English
  • One Reference
  • A separate personal statement should be supplied prior to interview.
  • Applicants meeting these requirements may be invited for interview.

Progression routes

Successful students may apply to NC Care Courses at level 6.

In exceptional circumstances, following successful completion of this course students may progress to HNC Social Care, HNC Working with Communities, HNC Counselling or HNC Social Sciences.

Successful students may pursue a career in Health / Social care related posts at support worker level within residential care and day care facilities for a variety of service user groups.
