NC Engineering Practice

This course is designed for those wishing to enter the Mechanical/Manufacture Engineering Industry. The course has been designed to offer a balance of practical and theory suitable for those who may wish to progress to either employment or to further their education.  
Applications are invited from those who are undertaking a Modern Apprenticeship or as part of their Professional Development. 

Course content

Throughout the duration of the course you will undertake SQA NC Units which will lead to the NC Engineering Practice Award at SCQF Level 5 (GD27 45); the units that you will undertake are given below:

Core Units

  • Communication Core Skill Unit 
  • Mathematics: Craft 1 
  • Engineering: Using Information Technology
  • Health & Safety: Engineering 

Mandatory Units 

  • Engineering Dimensional Control
  • CAD for Engineers
  • Engineering Materials
  • Graphical Engineering Communications

Optional Units

  • Engineering Project
  • Engineering Quality: An Introduction
  • Engineering Workshop Skills
  • Engineering Assembly Skills

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • Four National 4s or equivalent standard grades, including maths and a science or a technical subject
  • Applications are also invited from those without formal qualifications but who have relevant life and/or work experience

Progression routes

Successful students may gain entry to the following courses at Glasgow Clyde College:

  • HND Mechanical Engineering
  • HND Electrical Engineering
  • HND Engineering Systems
  • HNC Manufacturing Engineering

Previous students have progressed onto Apprenticeships in the Mechanical, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Aerospace and Ship Building sectors.
