NC Electrical Engineering

The course is designed to allow candidates to develop knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of Electrical Engineering. The course has been designed to offer a balance of practical and theory suitable for candidates who may wish to progress to either employment or further their education.  

Applications are invited from candidates who are undertaking a Modern Apprenticeship or as part of their Professional Development. 

Course content

Throughout the duration of the course you will undertake SQA NC Units which will lead to the NC Electrical Engineering Award at SCQF Level 6 (G9AF 46); the units that you will undertake are given below:

Core Units

Communication Core Skill Unit
Mathematics: Technician 1
Engineering: Applying Information Technology  

Mandatory Units 

Electrical Principles 
Fundamental Electrical Systems 
Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations 
Single and Three Phase Induction Motors 
Electrical Testing and Measurement 

 

Optional Units

Earthing and Earth Fault Current Protection
Engineering Project
Electrostatics and Electromagnetism
Transformation and Rectification 

Entry requirements (minimum)

Four National 5s or equivalent standard grades or Intermediate 2, including maths and a science or a technical subject
Applications are also invited from those without formal qualifications but who have relevant life and/or work experience

Previous students have progressed onto Apprenticeships in the Energy, Maintenance, Design and Process Engineering sectors.
