NC Early Education and Childcare - Level 6

This course provides an integrated programme of theory and practice at Level 6 and aims to enable you to work effectively in certain posts within the field of Early Education and Childcare.

  • Child Development: Birth to 12 years
  • Communication
  • Developing an Understanding of Working with Children
  • Developing an Understanding of Working with Children: Workplace Experience
  • Developmental Theory in Early Education and Childcare
  • First Aid
  • Guidance
  • HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C Infections
  • Holistic Approaches to Child Health
  • Play in Early Education and Childcare
  • Play in Practice
  • Optional units
  • Supporting ICT in Early Years units. 

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • Candidates should have passes in four subjects at  SCQF level 5 such as National 5, Standard Grades at band 2 or above or Intermediate 2 (National 5), one of which much be English. Successful achievement of the NC Playwork and Childcare (Level 5) course may also be considered.
  • Applications considered with no formal qualifications but must have relevant experience / interest. Selection for interview will be based on the content of a personal statement where we can establish your interest in learning in the Early Years field
  • Due to the number of internal candidates progressing to the next level of study, places on this course may be limited
  • Candidates will be required to enter the PVG scheme administered by Disclosure Scotland. This check will be carried out before undertaking work experience. Any applicant who has offences that may be recorded on a Disclosure Scotland check should discuss this with staff at interview.

  • SVQ Level 3 Social Services (Children and Young People)
  • Employment as a Nursery Assistant within private or partnership childcare providers.
