Introduction to Engineering - Level 4 (January 2018)

The course is designed to provide you with a range of practical skills within the area of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. This course will enable you to experience various areas of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering so that you can progress either into employment or further study.

Course content

The course will be predominantly workshop based and the following units will be undertaken throughout the course:

• Engineering Workshop Skills
• Engineering Assembly Skills
• Material Removal Practice – Turning
• Material Removal Practice - Milling
• Engineering Material Removal Principles 
• Graphical Engineering Communication 
• CAD for Engineers  

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • Three National 4 qualifications or equivalent
  • Applications are also invited from those without formal qualifications but who have relevant life and/or work experience
  • An interview may be required for this course.
Selection Process Information

Progression routes

Successful students may gain entry to the SVQ Level 2 Engineering Technology & Design and the SVQ Level 2 Fabrication and Welding Programmes at the Anniesland Campus.

Previous students have progressed to employment in the Mechanical, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Aerospace and Ship Building sectors.
