National 5 Maths

This course aims to provide successful performance in the National 5 level Mathematics Course and to provide a qualification which can support applications for Primary Teaching.

This level 5 Mathematics course has been divided into 3 units, each assessed upon completion. If they are not achieved first time there will be an opportunity to re-sit during the year. The final exam in May covers all three units. Paper One is non-calculator and Paper Two allows the use of a calculator.

We would ask you to fill out your application form as fully as possible to help us in the process of selecting candidates. Please provide details of all your qualifications, including any that are still pending.

If English is not your first language, for study at SCQF level 5 you must be able to demonstrate English language skills at that level (e.g. SQA Intermediate 2 level or IELTS 5).

Entry requirements (minimum)

For SCQF 5 subjects (National 5) we require a pass at National 4 (including Added Value Unit), Intermediate 1 at A or B, or Standard Grade at level 3 or above in Maths.

Due to the high level of challenge presented by National courses, and the significant demand for this programme, please note that the above represents minimum entry requirements. Our selection processes will also take into account the breadth of subjects studied previously.
