HND Computer Networking

This is a two year course. Year one focuses on a wide range of computing skills with an emphasis on networking. In year two the emphasis is largely networking infrastructure and administration. You will study the Cisco CCNA course, giving you the opportunity to gain an HND as well as an industry-standard qualification, which is renowned the world over. At the end of year one, you may choose to follow an alternative computing route such as networking, technical support or computer science although additional subjects may be required.

  • Ethical hacking (Cardonald Campus only)
  • Computing forensics (Cardonald Campus only).

In addition to this, you will also have the opportunity to study towards a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).

At Cardonald Campus, students can study for CompTIA A+ and Microsoft MCITP qualifications.

These qualifications are highly desired by employers. The college organises a series of networking competitions in preparation for World Skills and has specialist networking labs, with the latest Cisco equipment. 

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • One Higher and one Intermediate 2/National 5 from Computing, Maths, English, IT, or Science, or a relevant NQ or equivalent qualification
  • Applications are also invited from those without formal entry qualifications but with relevant work experience
  • For those holding a relevant HNC it may be possible to access Year two of the HND. Please contact the Faculty directly via the email address on this page.
  • A suitable employer or academic reference.
Those who meet the entry criteria and have a suitable reference will be accepted on the course without interview. All other applicants will be interviewed.

Progression routes

  • 3rd year entry to various degree courses at the University of the West of Scotland, Glasgow Caledonian University, Edinburgh Napier University and Abertay University
  • Second year entry to University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde, University of Edinburgh
  • Employment in networking and related industry.
