HNC Care and Administrative Practice

This course is designed to provide students with the clinical knowledge, understanding and vocational skills to prepare them for undergraduate degree programmes in Nursing, Health and other related fields or to qualify them to work at Senior Health Care Support Worker level in a care or hospital setting. This course includes a clinical placement depending on Greater Glasgow Health Board needs. Also available as an evening class (2 years). Entry requirements (minimum)

  • Credit Standard Grade Maths, Intermediate 2 or National 5 Maths would be preferable
  • A Level 6 NC in a Health or Care related area
  • SWAP Access to Nursing
  • 2 relevant, related Highers or equivalent, preferably incling English.
  • A successful interview
  • A separate personal statement should be supplied prior to interview
  • Applications are also invited from those without formal qualifications but who have relevant life and/or work experience.  This will be subject to an entrance exam and advantage will be given to those with relevant care experience
  • PVG Disclosure and a health check is essential as work experience opportunities are part of the course.  Glasgow Clyde College will pay for these. 
  • Due to the competition for places, the specialist nature of this course and placement requirements not every applicant who meets the minimum entry requirements will be called for interview.
Selection Process Information

Progression routes

Some students may access Year 2 of the Nursing Degree at Glasgow Caledonian University or at Stirling University. 

Students can progress to Year 1 of degrees in Nursing and Allied Professions and health related areas at a range of universities.  This includes Year 1 of certain Paramedic degree programmes.

As this is a qualification that is recognised by the NHS, successful candidates will be qualified to work at Senior Health Care Support Worker level.
