Higher Maths (Evening)

This course aims to provide successful performance in the Higher Maths National Course.

Mathematics is very important when seeking employment or when applying to further or higher education.

We would ask you to fill out your application form as fully as possible to help us in the process of selecting candidates. Please provide details of all your qualifications, including any that are still pending.

If English is not your first language, for study at SCQF level 6 you must be able to demonstrate English language skills at that level (e.g. SQA Higher level or IELTS 6). 

Course content

Mathematics: Expressions and Functions (Higher)

  • use mathematical operational skills linked to expressions and functions
  • use mathematical reasoning skills linked to expressions and functions

Mathematics: Relationships and Calculus (Higher)

  • use mathematical operational skills linked to relationships and calculus
  • use mathematical reasoning skills linked to relationships and calculus

Mathematics: Applications (Higher)

  • use mathematical operational skills linked to applications
  • use mathematical reasoning skills linked to applications

Higher Mathematics will build on your previous mathematical experience in the areas of algebra, geometry and trigonometry and introduces you to calculus.

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • For SCQF 6 subjects (Higher) we require an A or B pass at National 5 or A or B at Intermediate 2 in Maths
  • Due to the high level of challenge presented by National Courses, and the significant demand for this programme, please note that the above represents minimum entry requirements. Our selection processes will also take into account the breadth of subjects studied previously.

Progression routes

  • The course has obvious relevance for candidates with interests in fields such as commerce, engineering and science where the mathematics learned will be put to direct use.
  • Higher National Course qualifications can be used to support progression in a variety of work or study contexts.
