City & Guilds Certificate and Diploma Vehicle Maintenance (Level 1)

This course covers automotive vehicle servicing and repair specialisms, including service and repair. It aims to provide knowledge and understanding for a career in Automotive Engineering. It provides an alternative study route for those who wish to gain a recognised qualification but who do not have access to studying an SVQ.

Course content

  • Skills in Health, Safety and Good Housekeeping in the Automotive Environment
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety and Good Housekeeping in the Automotive Environment
  • Skills to Support Working Relationships in the Automotive Work Environment
  • Knowledge to Support Working Relationships in the Automotive Work Environment
  • Vehicle Technology and Workshop Methods and Processes
  • Carrying Out Basic Routine Vehicle Maintenance
  • Level 1 Vehicle Braking Systems.
Units will be assessed by defined practical tasks, oral questioning and online testing.

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • A pre-entry aptitude test, core skill profile and guidance from college staff to ensure that the course is right for you
  • Applications are also welcome from those without formal qualifications but who have relevant life and/or work experience.

  • Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair 
  • Automotive Apprenticeship.
