SWAP Access to Humanities

This course is designed for adults returning to study after at least 5 years out of full-time education. It is available at Anniesland and Langside Campus and provides two alternative routes into University to study either a social science  or primary education degree. 

You will have the opportunity to study a range of SQA Social Science units at SCQF levels 5 and 6, alongside units in Communication, Mathematics and Information Technology.

The course also includes a class in 'Preparation for Higher Education' which, combined with guidance, aims to help students reach their full potential. The classes on offer are assessed by continuous assessment throughout the year.

NB: The Langside Campus Access course offers the potential to progress to either Social Sciences degrees or the Primary Education degree. The Anniesland Campus Access course offers progression to Social Sciences degrees only.

Students wishing to go on to primary teaching will require to study and successfully complete a Mathematics examination at SCQF level 5 and complete a placement in a primary school.

Entry requirements (minimum)

  • Candidates must meet SWAP criteria
  • As there are no formal entry requirements, selection will be based on application form, interview (including written task), reference and evidence of academic potential.
  • If English is not your first language you must demonstrate English language skills equivalent to IELTS 5, or have ESOL at Intermediate 2/National 5 level, B or above

If you pass the Access course and secure a good reference from Glasgow Clyde College you have a wide range of progression  routes:

Arts or Social Sciences degrees or primary education degrees* at one of the following universities:

  • University of the West of Scotland*
  • Glasgow Caledonian University
  • University of Glasgow*
  • University of Strathclyde*
  • Stirling University
HNC/HND courses at Glasgow Clyde College or other FE colleges Open University.

Applications are made to a course and a first choice of campus. If the course is oversubscribed at your first choice you will be automatically considered for alternative sites and may be made an offer without a further application.
