Summer music class - School of Rock

This summer music class is for 6 to 11 year olds and will give children the opportunity to try a variety of instruments including percussion, ukulele, guitar and keyboard. Or if they can already play an instrument, they are welcome to bring that along.

They will develop their confidence in music skills and develop their knowledge of beat, rhythm and pitch, by learning music concepts through musical games.

Course content

‘School of Rock’ is a fun-filled week of music with the School of Rock theme, in which children will prepare two songs agreed between themselves and the tutor. They will work towards an end-of-week performance which family and friends can attend (this performance will be free to attend and there is no limit on tickets).

During the week, the course will cover the following activities on a daily basis:

  • Kodaly musicianship skills – games and activities exploring beat, rhythm and pitch
  • trying out a variety of different instruments
  • working together as a team to prepare and practise, prepare and perform two songs from the ‘School of Rock’ Musical.

In addition to the musical benefits gained, the course is also designed to have a positive impact on confidence, Maths, Language and Social skills.
